Some of the PDO and Intermediate Indicators have been achieved or exceeded their targets. The construction of 620km of high quality fiber optic network has been completed. The number of people accessing internet services has increased from 17% to 23% . Wholesale national capacity transmission price has reduced from $2,000 to $123. The population reaching mobile services geographically has increased from 24 percent to 64 percent. The number of director project beneficiaries remains at zero at closing, because the infrastructure is not operational yet. However, based on the status of the PPP partner recruitment process as of September 29, and the PPP negotiations scheduled for October 4, one can expect the new fiber optic infrastructure to be operational and commercialized by December 31. As a result, more than 5 million people will immediately have access to improved internet connectivity. A total of 141 people were trained in Telecom Regulation, PPP contract management, and fiduciary procedure under the project. 9/30/2021 Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report AFR RI-Central African Backbone SOP5 (P132821) Finalization of the PPP contract is in progress but will not be completed before the project closing date.
