The area brought under enhanced biodiversity protection in existing and new nature reserves has reached 3498 square km and the area outside of nature 6/25/2020 Page 1 of 6 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Landscape Approach to Wildlife Conservation in Northeast China (P122383) reserves managed in a biodiversity friendly manner has reached 11,631 square km. Some outcomes and targets have been exceeded due to synergies of counterpart funding and the establishment of the National Park for Amur Tiger and Amur Leopard in the project area. Overall management efficiency of the existing natural reserves has improved and training and awareness building activities have reached more than 100,000 people. Conservation plans, policy recommendations, and regulations have been developed and workshops and study tours carried out to strengthen cross provincial and international collaboration. In both provinces, the frequency of cameras catching wildlife has increased substantially, signaling significant improvement of the ecological conditions in the wildlife habitats and recovery of biodiversity in the project area. mpaTable Multiphase Programmatic Approach (MPA) Status mpaTableBody Risks Systematic Operations Risk-rating Tool Risk Category Rating at Approval Previous Rating Current Rating Political and Governance -- Moderate Moderate Macroeconomic -- Low Low Sector Strategies and Policies -- Moderate Moderate Technical Design of Project or Program -- Moderate Moderate Institutional Capacity for Implementation and -- Moderate Moderate Sustainability Fiduciary -- Moderate Moderate Environment and Social -- Moderate Moderate Stakeholders -- Moderate Moderate Other -- -- -- Overall -- Moderate Moderate Results PDO Indicators by Objectives / Outcomes Create ecological conditions for recovery of threatened biodiversity in priority landscapes. It's an integrated wildlife habitat with improved ecological conditions for recovery of biodiversity, including using the Amur tiger as a flagship species. The project has made significant contribution to its establishment during all the years when the project was prepared and implemented. The awareness building, policy recommendations, camera monitoring, field survey methodology, SMART patrolling techniques, and increased management Comments: effectiveness of Nature Reserves and increased carrying capacity of the project area all play an important role and are fully integrated into the National Park management practice. The project's impact goes far beyond the implementation duration and its sustainability is long term, establishing ecological corridors connecting nature reserves to provide habitat for the conservation of viable size populations of key biodiversity while decreasing human-wildlife conflict.
