OBJECTIVE 1.1 Development Objective Original Development Objective (Approved as part of Approval package on 25-Sep-2018) The Project Development Objective is to improve the country’s hydro-meteorological, climate and early warning services, and improve access to such services by targeted sectors and communities. Has the Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project Objective? No 2. KEY ISSUES & STATUS 4.1 Implementation Status and Key Decisions While the project has made overall robust progress, it continues to lag behind the original schedule. Overall, the project is expected to achieve the outcomes and related results indicators, notably once the technical challenges related to the local flood early warning system (SAPCI) have been addressed. To ensure the successful completion of all activities, it is critical to complete the construction of the five ANAM synoptic stations, finalize the remaining construction works, implement solar electrification of buildings, and execute all activities under the technical assistance partnership between WMO and ANAM, as well as WMO and DEIE. The Bank emphasized the importance of a thorough review of all activities that may be at risk of not being completed before the project's conclusion. This review should determine whether adjustments or alternative activities are necessary. 5. The river basin related flood forecasting tools (FANFAR, VOLTAlarm) are now calibrated for Burkina Faso and operational. The local flood early warning system ("SAPCI locale") is currently under preparation with the support of WMO. This result is thus expected to be achieved before completion.
