KEY ISSUES & STATUS Oct 21, 2024 Page 1 of 9 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Rural Mobility and Connectivity Project (P164498) 4.1 Implementation Status and Key Decisions During the first phase of the project, around 262 kms of rural roads have been rehabilitated, enabling 191,229 people with enhanced access to all-season roads and 177 basic social services (schools and health centers). In addition, 102 villages and 75 irrigated agricultural sites are now accessible because of the rehabilitation the first phase’s rural roads. The project has also installed 64 solar street lighting, and constructed (4) mechanic wells, 2000 meter of school fences and 12 outdoor latrines to the benefit of local community living along the already completed roads have. The project has also contributed to skills improvement and job creation in the project area because the number of short-term jobs in person-days. The contracts for the works scheduled under the project's second phase were signed on September 9, 2024, and the relevant works are expected to be launched end of October. The tender documents have been revised to incorporate project design revision as to strengthen the rural roads resilience to climate as well as road safety. These revisions come at a higher costs per km (Hydraulic structures in the revised design represents 38% of total costs), thus the project readjusted the total km to be realized under the project’s second phase from 250 km to 185 km. The remaining 65 km were agreed to be launched under another active Transport project (PACNEN) financing. 5.
