A few areas are experiencing delays, including the implementation of the Mwanza and Songwe OSBP, remedial works for the Karonga-Songwe road, and road crash blackspot improvements.  Karonga-Songwe Road Improvements: While remedial works planned for August 2023 have not yet started, while the cause of the road defects has been identified, and a recommended solution is awaiting government decision.  Road Crash Blackspot Improvements: Improvement orders for three blackspots were issued in August 2023, with contractors actively working on them. Detailed traffic management plans and stakeholder engagement with Mozambique are in progress.  Improving Management of Road Safety: Most activities are completed, with initial training and data collection for a study on over- speeding and drunk driving conducted. Information on the effectiveness of the intervention is forthcoming.  Malawi National Single Window (NSW): Infrastructure needs for NSW have been identified through workshops, and procurement is underway. Advisor contracts are progressing and have transitioned to the Southern Africa Trade and Connectivity Project (SATCP).  Reduction of Border Agencies: A new coordinated border management model is being piloted at the Mwanza border, with a nationwide rollout expected by mid-2024.  Upgrading and Modernization of OSBPs: Dedza OSBP has been completed, Mwanza OSBP is nearing completion, and Songwe OSBP has recently started. Efforts are ongoing to address any remaining issues.  Institutional Strengthening and Implementation Assistance: All activities, including the installation of procurement and contract management systems and staff training, are complete.
