KEY ISSUES & STATUS Mar 24, 2025 Page 1 of 9 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Jharkhand Power System Improvement Project (P162086) 4.1 Implementation Status and Key Decisions Under the project, JUSNL has increased the electricity transmission system capacity by 200 Mega Volt-Amperes (MVA) at 132 kilovolt (kV) level. An additional 1000 MVA of transmission system capacity is expected to be completed by June 2025. This will improve the availability and reliability of electricity in Jharkhand. JUSNL is also constructing new transmission lines to connect both new and existing substations to improve the flow of electricity within Jharkhand. Wherever applicable, JUSNL is making regular compensation payments for temporary displacement to project-affected persons (PAPs) during the construction of these transmission lines. The distribution company, JBVNL, is transforming its IT systems to improve customer service and satisfaction. JBVNL has successfully implemented a new digital Revenue Management System. All the consumers in Jharkhand (approximately 52 lakh in number) are being billed through this new billing system. JBVNL is also implementing 350,000 smart consumer meters in Ranchi, out of which 310,000 meters have been installed. JBVNL has also implemented a tool for power procurement cost optimization to reduce the power procurement cost and established a new customer care call centre to quickly resolve consumer complaints. The project has developed 17 Tribal Development Plans (TDPs) for sub-stations located in predominantly tribal areas. The TDPs includes two major activities- i) installation of solar streetlights and ii) distribution of sanitary kits to identified beneficiaries. The project has installed solar lights in Ranchi, Dumka and Daltonganj zones. The installation of solar streetlights in Jamshedpur zone is in progress. All TDP activities are planned to be completed by March 31, 2025. 5.
