KEY ISSUES & STATUS Mar 06, 2025 Page 1 of 8 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Baghdad Water Supply and Sewerage Improvement Project (P162094) 4.1 Implementation Status and Key Decisions The review carried out in December 2024 concluded that project implementation has progressed well, the current commitments reaching USD 137.1 million (91.4%) and disbursements amounting to USD 84.02 million (56%). The institutional strengthening program (Component 1) consists of three activities: (i) the implementation of a customer relationship management (CRM) and billing system; (ii) the development of a water security and contingency plan for Baghdad; and (iii) the establishment of a public-private partnership (PPP) framework for the water sector in Baghdad and training of relevant staff in the relevant areas. The first activity is under procurement; the Mayoralty of Baghdad is reviewing its priorities and this process could impact the implementation of the second and third activities which have not yet been launched. All five sub-projects of the water distribution networks have been completed: rehabilitation of 134 km of water networks serving 222,700 people. The construction of the R2 water reservoir and wastewater sub-projects are still under implementation. The status of ongoing activities is as follows: 1. The construction of the R2 water reservoir, the largest sub-project under the project, is progressing well, with physical progress increasing from 79% to 89% since the last review. 2. The wastewater sub-projects. All six contracts in the wastewater sector have been signed and work is ongoing. The physical progress for various projects includes 56% for the Ghazaliya sewer trunk, 91% for the Rasafa 2 pumping stations, 46% for the Al Habibiya sewerage station, 15% for four Ghazaliya pumping stations, 10% for the Al Ghazaliya/ Al Khadra sewerage station, and 5% for the Al Doura Sewerage station as it was signed on December 25, 2024. 5.
