The major modifications made are as follows: (i) Revise the PDO, simplify and update the results framework to target and better measure the outcomes delivered by each component; (ii) Increase the importance of Component 1: Sustainable wood processing by increasing the component allocation from US$2.2 million to US$7.2 million while focusing the activities Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Report No: ISR14226 towards activities that can generate a more immediate impact; (iii) Increase the importance of component 2: Ecotourism by increasing the component’s allocation from US$8.7 million to US$10.7 million and helping make Kribi emerge as a potential growth pole; (iv) Redefine the goals and intervention mechanisms of the competiveness fund, which in its original form, could have only a very limited impact (assistance planned for 90 companies over 5 years) under component 3: Support towards technical training in the wood and tourism value chains so that it contributes more meaningfully to skills development in small and medium enterprises; and (v) Downsize the Project Coordination Unit and reduce the operating cost, Public Disclosure Copy which represents 20 percent of the entire budget allocation so as to allocate these funds to project activities. This change in the project staff is also meant to help improve the Project’s governance. The rapid implementation of these measures should improve the project’s performance in the months following its restructuring. The implementation pace has become faster compared to before the June 2013. To meet the project development objective and have the expected impact, the Project Implementation Unit team needs to further accelerate the implementation pace and improve the high-quality implementation over an extended period of time.
