Has the Project Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project Objective? The total distributed stoves amount to 40,043 (as of end October 2019), representing almost 90% of the total target of 45,000 stoves. The project promoted the establishment of eight consortia (distributor-manufacturer joint venture) which are actively selling products across Uganda. Of these, four consortia were selected originally and an additional four were onboarded in March 2019, which has given the sector growth an even greater momentum. A total of 13 companies (which are part of the 8 participating consortia) are considered new market entrants, which indicates that the original project target of 7 new market entrants has already been exceeded (a list of participating manufacturers and distributors is included below). About 65% of the grant funds, $1.43 million of the $2.2 million, have been disbursed to date. -Cumulative sales are at 24,654 stoves as of mid-May 2019 and with the combined sales of the eight participating distributor-manufacturer consortia, the project is currently on track to achieving its target of 45,000 by end of 2019. Awareness and Market Activation campaign activities have enhanced the marketing strategies of the distribution partners for the participating products. The umbrella brand name –Supa Sigiri – was launched in September 2018 to represent the eligible stoves participating in the project, which have gone through a quality verification and performance process and customer acceptance trials. The interim results from this campaign have been very encouraging also evident through the increased sales of the participating companies. The campaign has been ongoing since June 2019 and as of September 30, 2019, the selected marketing agency had carried out 162 market activations and reached over 20,000 people in and around Kampala. Over 500 stoves have been sold during these market activations and almost 6,000 people have pledged to buy a clean cookstove in the near future. The project is continuing to rely on the Independent Verification and Results Monitoring Agency for sales verifications and eligible expenditures under the DCF. At the same time, the firm is carrying out consumer surveys and field-based Kitchen Performance Tests to assess the benefits of the stoves to households (fuel and financial savings). The next implementation review mission is being planned for Q3 of FY20. 1/26/2020 Page 1 of 4 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Uganda Clean Cooking Supply Chain Expansion Project (P153679) The team will be closely following up to ensure satisfactory project closure, including results documentation and arrangements for ICR.
