As a result of the violence, activities that had been planned to be undertaken with the third additional financing (US$ 7.53 million) stalled and were only re-initiated towards the end of March 2014- when relative calm returned to the country. As of this reporting, contracting of NGOs to undertake planned work has been finalized and through these contracts, an additional 14,500 beneficiaries are expected to be reached by the Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Report No: ISR15497 project. Currently, the number of farmers adopting improved technologies for food production stands at 224,603; approximately 6724 metric tons of storage capacity has been built and total number of beneficiaries stands at 302,467. Work on refurbishment of facilities at Palotaka Basic Seed Center has been completed and installation of equipment awaits arrival of experts from India from where the machines were procured. Due to increased food insecurity in the country the board approved another US$ 9.0 million as the fourth additional financing to the project. As part of the additional financing, the PDO was reformulated to permit the provision of direct food support to eligible beneficiaries through the Public Disclosure Copy World Food Programme. The additional financing will increase the number of project beneficiaries from an expected 244,000 to a total of 384,500 individuals (a net increase of 140,500 beneficiaries). As of this reporting, a contract with WFP to provide emergency food relief to the displaced is being processed. Out of the US$ 26.7 million, about US$13 million has been disbursed and the balance is all committed (most of which is to WFP).
