Eighteen months since effectiveness, it is 43% disbursed. Under Component 1, the Government has hired staff for the Secretariat and provided them premises in central Banjul. National Social Protection Steering Committee meetings have been held quarterly and a work program developed. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Secretariat has been hosting weekly meetings to coordinate social protection responses to the pandemic. The Social Registry Information System and data sharing protocols are under development. Under Component 2, a Nafa Quick program was introduced to respond to COVID-19, which coincided with the lean season in The Gambia. Nafa Quick provided 78,359 households in 30 districts two cash payments between July and October to help them with loss of income, increase in food prices, lower remittances and other costs associated with the COVID pandemic. Most of the money was spent on food, indicating very basic needs among the rural population.
