The key project beneficiaries were identified including deaf preschool children, deaf leaders, and sign-language interpreters and hearing teachers for the deaf. Although the project has a target of 150 young deaf children in the four project sites, 255 children have been enrolled. All of them are receiving regular pre-education sessions at home and/or at the model classrooms. Family Support Teams (including Deaf Family Mentors, Sign Language Interpreters and Spoken Language Teachers) have been established, trained and continued working with the deaf children and their families at eight centres and at home. Sign language interpreters and deaf family mentors have completed their training programs. They were tested in June 2015 and will be granted with MOET certificates on sign language interpretation and training. A research on project impact using Early Development Instrument (EDI) is initiated and expected to be completed by July/August 2015. The project now focuses more on providing support for deaf children at special centers and schools. This will help reduce project cost per child and make deaf children more ready for primary education context. The project is requesting for an extension of eleven months to ensure the continuity of sign language training for deaf children aged 5- 7 when they enter primary education.
