The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to: (a) provide additional rail transport capacity, improved service quality and higher freight throughput on the 401 km Ludhiana- Khurja section of the EDFC; and (b) develop the institutional capacity of DFCCIL to build, maintain and manage the DFC infrastructure network. 2. Two civil works contracts are in advance stages of implementation. The field progress was impacted due to the delay in handing over land to the contractors, working capital constraints, COVID-19 lockdown and stoppage of work by the district administration to curb pollution in 2/19/2021 Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor-3 (P150158) the national capital region. Most land is now handed to the contractors and the progress has bounced back to pre COVID levels. The stakeholders are working towards ramping up the key productivity rates and meet the revised project schedule. The two systems were awarded recently and mobilization, design and procurement/ ordering of goods are progressing satisfactorily. 3. The project is expected to be completed, achieve the PDO and deliver its benefits with a delay of about 1 year.
