After initial slow start due to the lack of familiarity with implementation and financing procedures, project activities have started Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Report No: ISR8845 picking up. A number of key consultancies have been recruited to work on the Environmental baseline survey, Monitoring and Evaluation and the Public awareness campaign. Training activities for farmers, lab technicians, and project PMOs staff are proceeding well. Research proposals have been reviewed evaluated and are currently under implementation. A number of standards are currently being formulated and promulgated after due diligence review from responsible authority. A number of demonstrations for good agricultural practices are being supported through technical assistance, and basic equipments. Similarly pilot programs for agricultural product certifications are on-going. The Public Disclosure Copy capacity and resources of the agriculture supervision systems are being strengthened and equipped. Design and construction drawing for the laboratories and testing centers have been finalized, with preparation of bid documents expected to follow shortly. The project logo has been developed and a number of training material and booklets have been produced. Finally the project is supporting demonstrative models for safe agriculture supply chains with backward linkages to farmer groups. The preparation of the bidding documents for labs construction and rehabilitation, a major activity in the project, is expected to proceed at a faster rate. Project operational and financial management procedures are being simplified and communicated to all level PMOs, together with training, to accelerate implementation.
