Key rehabilitation work at the hydropower plant is making steady progress. Rehabilitation of Unit 1 turbine was completed in March 2018 and the overhaul of turbine of Unit 3 was completed in October 2018, thus revitalizing 50 Mega Watt capacity of the Naghlu Hydropower Plant. Under the supervision of the project international expert, the power plant completed major maintenance of Unit 4 in November 2019. The dams safety component is lagging behind due to inability of DABS to mobilize contractors for this highly specialized work. A plan has been divized on how to accelerate these works. The electrification of 18 villages in Sorobi District (10 more than originally planned), which is part of the benefit sharing program for the local communities living close to the plant, is well underway. Electrification work for 6 villages is complete thus supplying power to 570 households. The 12/23/2019 Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Naghlu Hydropower Rehabilitation Project (P132944) work of remaining 12 villages is close to completion. The associated construction of the 110/20 kV Sorobi Substation is complete and was energized on April 7, 2019. Electrification of additional villages in the Tagab district is also in the planning stages. Previously it was what not expected that this district could be electrified due to security concerns.
