The riverbank protection works and environmental clean-up activities on the Liakhvi River Bridge site have been completed. Rehabilitation works of the Gori Tunnel for the east and west portals are almost completed with vegetation appearing on the artificial slopes. Furthermore, good progress has been made on security and surveillance electronic systems. The testing of electromechanical and fire-fighting equipment has been carried out in September 2013. The system is now in place and can report fire incidents or accidents. As for the Ruisi to Agara bypass financed under TEWHIP additional financing, works have started at a good pace. The RD has almost finalized the expropriations and the contractor is authorized to work on 90% of the proposed layout. Support to RD in project management and safeguards are carried out and implementation of social safeguards measures for the Public Disclosure Copy Ruisi-Agara section has been satisfactory. Nevertheless, since the last ISR, works have progressed more slowly than expected. An action plan to ensure timely completion of civil works has been set up and a new project manager appointed by the Contractor. As a result, the overall implementation progress remains moderately satisfactory.
