Progress achievements are related to the completion of the procurement process and delivery of the transformers, cables, prepayment meters, other distribution materials, and generation overhaul. With these actions, the distribution component of the project has been fully completed, which aims at supporting the rehabilitation of the distribution network and the connection of new customers. Component related to enhancing supply options is ongoing with the prequalification process for the rehabilitation of the Heavy Fuel Tanks at LEB Bushrod. Regarding the implementation of the AFREA component, rehabilitation of the micro-hydro power plant at Yandohun in Kolahun District, Lofa County is underway. An Additional Financing was approved by the board in January 2012 to support the provision of additional power generation in Liberia, as well as promoting efficient lighting in rural areas financed by GEF through the “Lighting Lives in Liberia activity. Preparation of the bidding documents for the procurement of a 10MW power plant has started and a workshop in February 2012 took place in Liberia as a kick-off of the “Lighting Lives in Liberia activity. The workshop brought eight international manufacturers whose off-grid solar products had met the Lighting Africa Minimum Quality Assurance Standards and seven competitively selected local retail partners who had expressed interested in participating in the pilot project.
