The upgrading of the Sveneti-Ruisi section successfully contributed to a reduction of 33% in travel time and a reduction in vehicle operating costs. The implementation of road safety improvement works along the completed sections of the highway contributed to a reduction in road crashes, as the road fatality rate per 10,000 vehicles on E60 corridor from Senaki to Tbilisi was reduced by 43%, exceeding the final target of 30%. There is no pending activity under the initial project financing. As for the Ruisi to Agara bypass section financed under the additional financing (2012-2015), the main civil works were completed in December 2015 in compliance with construction standards. The section was opened for traffic on December 16, 2015, contributing to a significant reduction in travel time and vehicle operating costs as well. On the institutional side, actions to support the Roads Department in managing the road network and improving road safety (new framework for E60 performance based road maintenance, road safety audits, improvement of the road crash database, road safety study tour to Finland) were satisfactorily implemented. Besides, a road safety awareness campaign on the highway corridor launched in April 2016 will be completed by the end of June 2016. The target will be soon achieved as soon as the speed limit is raised to 110 km/h.
