During this period, the Project has experienced notable development: A restructuring of the Project has been processed and approved on April 15, 2015. This restructuring has resulted among other things in the extension of the project closing by 19 months, from August 31, 2015 to March 31, 2017 and the modification of the Project description to incorporate activities relevant with the operation’s objective and initially planned under another (closed) IDA-funded Education Project (P075964, Credit 4070-CM), namely the construction of latrines and boreholes in schools in the Adamaoua, East and North regions. All contracts for the construction of the institutional and domestic latrines in Douala, for the construction of institutional latrines and boreholes in rural areas have been adjudicated. In Douala, the draft detailed design, environmental and social studies for both the pilot fecal sludge treatment plants and semi-collective sanitation networks are under preparation. The Bank will keep supporting the Project during the finalization of the studies and bidding documents of these key activities to review the technical designs, as well as the analysis of the relevant institutional models for the operation of these infrastructure, the definition of the financial contributions of the households and sanitation truckers, and the definition of the tariff guaranteeing the financial sustainability of the operation. The implementation of the activities in the rural areas in the Far North for community awareness campaign and training of masons has been affected by security concerns, linked to the Boko Haram conflict.
