Beneficiaries in the province of Ruyigi have already received all planned cash transfers (30 months) and are already being prepared to receive graduation grants to be invested in Income Generating Activities. Accompanying measures on human capital development continue with all Project beneficiaries. The Project has already disbursed close to 70 percent of the funds and activities are expected to be completed one year before the Project’s closing date (June 2022). Project activities have been adapted to the Covid-19 context promoting social distancing and protecting households against the economic shock that the Covid-19 crisis will cause. An Iterative Beneficiary Monitoring system is being put in place to monitor the Covid-19 context and to assess the satisfaction of Project beneficiaries. Despite the challenge of operating during the Covid-19 crisis, the Project expects to reach all planned targets and to overachieve several of them. The preparation of a new Social Protection Project has started and is expected to be presented to the Board of World Bank Representatives by the end of the fiscal year. In addition, the new Project would add a component on productive inclusion and access to jobs to promote a more sustainable poverty reduction.
