The current implementation status of the project is as follows: Component 1: The elaboration of the Volta Basin Water Charter has been finalized. The remaining activities are the dissemination and awareness- building of stakeholders in the 6 members countries and the validation of the Water Charter annexes. The remaining acquisitions to be complete in July 2019, consist of the tools and communication media to implement this strategy in the months and years to come. The study on the strengthening of the VBA national focal structures has been finalized and the final report will be completed by early May 2019. In May10, 2019, the Council of Ministers of the VBA member’s states has endorsed the Water Charter after review and clearance from the Technical Committee of the 6 VBA Countries in May 6-9, 2019. Component 3. The project restructuring completed in January 2019 revised Component 3 to (i) cancel the activities that were no longer deemed achievable under the current time-frame of the project; and (ii) to revise the scope of the remaining activities to ensure the feasibility of implementation during the remaining project time. After the project restructuring, delays and security concerns have resulted in additional activities which will not be able to proceed further. This is expected to significantly affect the project performance at closing.
