Key rehabilitation work of units 1 and 3 of the hydropower plant has been making steady progress. It is expected that both units will be operational during the first half of 2018. Progress on the dam safety component is slower than expected due to the lack of interest of qualified consultants to work in Afghanistan. The electrification of 18 villages near Naghlu, which is part of the benefit sharing program under the project for the hydropower plant, is well underway. The hard work by the power utility DABS to make this project a success is commended.
