Despite the extraordinarily challenging environment, SAPREP has made satisfactory progress with implementation the remaining activities. More than 106,000 rural households were reached with the project support packages, and some activities have already been expanded beyond their original coverage targets. This includes 59,640 farmers reached with support packages to re-engage in crop and livestock production. Project beneficiaries continue to express high levels of satisfaction with the project investments which resulted in increased production, incomes and self-reliance. Rehabilitation of community water infrastructure improved irrigation water supply in the area of 5,133 ha, and 20,230 farmers already benefit from rehabilitation works. 11,634 workers benefitting from wage employment which provide income to farming households for their immediate needs. Cash-for-work program helps also to mitigate additional hardship created by COVID-19. Activities aimed at support of animal husbandry and livestock production have been almost completed and included provision of equipment to 124 farmer groups, distribution of improved forage seeds and feed blocks to 14,200 farmers. 18 private sector operators are supported by the project to establish a manufacturing base for feed block production model. All targeted 6,700 dairy farmers and honey producers have been provided with equipment and production inputs. As project support to horticulture value chains, some 1,400 horticulture producers have been provided with production inputs and training, and are already reporting sizeable increase in yields, area planted and farm profits. Four nurseries and two post-harvest collection centers have been established. Farmer field schools have started their operations and some 1,360 farmers have already been trained. Corrective actions have been implemented to address the issues with distribution of seeds and livestock packages recorded in some districts.
