The MTR confirmed that the project is on track to meet its development objectives, and in fact, will exceed some objectives, and that project implementation arrangements remain adequate. A key recommendation of the MTR was to modify three end-of-project development objective targets which are now expected to exceed original estimates. These indicator targets include: (I) number of households supported in adopting climate change and sustainable land management practices; (ii) land users adopting sustainable land management practices; and (iii) direct project beneficiaries. It was agreed that the client will request an amendment to these end-of-project targets. Additional Financing (AF) from IDA and PPCR grant resources for the project became effective on June 22, 2016. With the AF in place, the project will help finance costs associated with strengthening and expanding Component 1 (Rural Production and Land Resource Management Investments) and Component 2 (Knowledge Management and Institutional Support) of the original project. Specifically, the AF will (i) expand the project's geographic coverage and support to different climate vulnerable districts, by scaling up support for innovative rural production and sustainable land management (SLM) measures at the village level to help rural livelihoods become more resilient to climate change and (ii) improve access to the best or most appropriate knowledge on the adoption of SLM and climate resilient practices among the rural population and households. Given these initial rough estimates of the larger-scale investment beneficiaries, as well as the fact that populations have increased in many of the selected villages since preparation, some end-of-project indicator targets as reflected above are expected to be higher than initially estimated.
