Works completed to date have increased capacity to treat 150,000 tons per day of wastewater in Nanjing City. Water supply components completed to date include adding and improving about 500,000 cubic meters per day of treated bulk water supply and transmission and coverage of water supply has risen from 78 towns at appraisal to 86 towns now, which is on target to achieve coverage of 92 towns at the end of the project. The full impact of this additional bulk water supply will be felt when the downstream water distribution networks are completed by early 2013. Under the wastewater component, 2 wastewater treatment plants and related networks are completed, which will allow the project to achieve its objective of increasing wastewater service coverage to the project cities and improving the water quality in local rivers.
