Background. The project supports poor mothers in rural and disadvantaged areas of Eastern and Southwestern Uganda to access a package of
reproductive health services through a subsidized voucher scheme, including four antenatal care (ANC) visits, deliveries with skilled medical attendants,
postnatal care (PNC), treatment and management of selected pregnancy-related medical conditions and complications, and emergency transport. The
package also includes services for elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, as part of antenatal care.
Implementation Status. The voucher scheme is fully operational in all 25 districts. As of March 2017, the project had assisted a cumulative total of
43,042 safe deliveries and 64,454 ANC 1 visits. While the utilization rate for ANC 1 is high, the utilization rates for ANC 4 and PNC remain low.
Restructuring. In view of the additional funding the project obtained and the initial delays experienced by the project, the project will undergo
restructuring to extend the closing date from December 29, 2017 to December 15, 2019, and to revise the project targets accordingly.
