 Implementation Status and Key Decisions
   Project results and its social, environmental and economic impacts are very high. This underline the high commitment of key partners at all levels
   and the excellent performance of the PIU team.
   The project continues its dynamic through: (i) strong communication initiatives that have strengthened trust and collaboration among all actors (ii)
   the successful completion of a significant number of micro-projects; and (iii) the very satisfactory achievement of indicators.
   To date, the project has supported 115 sub-projects that have had a remarkable and visible socio-economic and environmental impacts on the
   ground through :

             and biodiversity conservation; (ii) 55 ME oriented toward income generating activities; (iii) 17 in the valorization of oases sub products, (iv)
             33 in the craft area; and (v) 18 microentreprises in the oases ecotourism development
       3. Cleaning of 405 Ha of oases areas for the benefice of 1052 farmers, and cleaning of 6 linear km of drains, establishment of drainage
             systems, management of 290 linear meters of buried channels for the release of waste waters ;
       4. Improvement of irrigation systems and techniques through: (i) the construction of 2738 linear meters of new seguias, the rehabilitation of
             about 500 ml of existing seguia, (ii) the development of a basin of storage of irrigation water (550 m³); (iii) implementation of a new
             localized irrigation water saving system;
       5. Integrated biological control of crop pests through the promotion of at least 6 different techniques,
       6. The fight against the ravages of wild boars through the protection of an area of 172 Ha to the benefit of 559 farmers, which has remarkably
             encouraged the practice of market gardening;
       7. Biodiversity restoration and oasis productivity improvement through the acquisition and distribution of 5000 date palm discards, 16265 fruit
             tree seedlings, and 1050 kg seed. These interventions cover a total area of 96 ha benefiting to 383 farmers.
  Activities of Component 1 (Strengthening Capacities for Sustainable Management of Oasis Ecosystems) are all completed including the biodiversity
  protection research activities.
  Activities of Component 2 (Supporting the Implementation of the Oasis Participatory Development Plans/ (PDPOs). The Project has signed a total of
  115 community micro-projects, including 63 micro-projects in the field of Sustainable Land, Water and Biodiversity Management (GDTE); and 48
  micro-projects in the area of Livelihood Diversification (DMS). The current distribution across the six oases covered by the Project is as follows:
  • Chbika: a total of 13 micro-projects, of which 6 in GDTE and 7 DMS
  • El Guettar: a total of 20 micro-projects, of which 12 in GDTE and 8 in DMS
  • Midès: a total of 15 micro-projects, of which 9 in GDTE and 6 in DMS
  • Noueil: a total of 15 micro-projects, of which 8 in GDTE and 7 in DMS
  • Zarat: a total of 17 micro-projects, including 8 GDTE and 9 in DMS
  • Tamerza: a total of 25 micro-projects, of which 14 in GDTE and 11 in DMS.
  This situation shows a strong growth in the number of micro-projects implemented from 23 in 2015, to 50 in 2016 and 68 in 2017, to currently reach
  105. Through these projects, a total amount of USD2.8 million was injected into these oases allowing to achieve described results above.
  Activities of Component 3 (Project coordination and management). To ensure appropriate follow-up of this relatively large number of micro-projects,
  the PMU organized a total of 18 missions between July 2017 and November 2018, the main objectives of which were: (i) organization of training
  and capacity building; (ii) consultation and planning of proposed micro-projects for 2018; (iii) technical, administrative and financial monitoring of the
  micro-projects under implementation; and (iv) participation of the Project in activities and initiatives of other stakeholders at the local level.
