The project has benefited a total of 3.66 million people, of which 0.93 million are provided with improved water supply through new connections while 2.73 million people are beneficiaries of improved services from existing connections. Key results include the following: (i) increased production and distribution of improved water supply in Addis Ababa and five secondary cities (Dire Dawa, Gondar, Hawassa, Jimma, and Mekelle) by over 200,000 M3/day (end Project target was 150,000 M3/ day); (ii) about 164,200 new households connected to the system expanding the service coverage to unserved areas and about 197,000 existing connections benefited from enhanced service; (iii) improved operational efficiency in all participating utilities through preparation of business plans, computerized billing and financial management systems, improved collection efficiency, and opening of branch offices; (iv) non-revenue water studies conducted and implemented in pilot intervention areas (saving of 1,900 M3/day); (v) about 5,543 yard taps for 27,700 households provided, along with 51 communal and public sanitation facilities in low income areas, while at the same time creating jobs for local youth and vulnerable groups. For secondary cities 134,360 Cu.m /day water is produced in Dire Dawa, Gondar, Hawassa, Jimma, and Mekelle of which 52,556 M3 /day is connected to the distribution systems including the additional water obtained from rehabilitation of existing deep wells and reduction in NRW in Gondar from 28% to 21%. The status of supply and installation of Electromechanical equipment for Hawassa, Mekele and Gondar is at stage of processing of LC while the supply and installation of Electromechanical Procurement for Dire Dawa city has significantly delayed due to complaint lodged during the bid evaluation stage. The implementing agency has to expedite the procurement process, so that the water shall be supplied within the closing period of the project. In regards to sanitation intervention of the two large contracts for expansion of waste water treatment plant WWTP) and sewer lines in Addis Ababa, improvement was reported in the pace of implementation of the WWTP. Design component of the waste water treatment plant is 88% completed while the physical progress for the construction reached around 26% against a plan to achieve 53%. LC processing, customs clearance and shipping were the major reasons for this delay. The construction progress of the Sewer Line is at 28% with considerable delay caused by slow performance in clearance of ROW and the unexpected rocky subsoil formation. 10/21/2016 Page 2 of 8 Public
