The Governments of Liberia and Sierra Leone have now substantially increased surveillance and reduced illegal fishing, creating space for the development of a new long-term policy vision that could be feasible, based on more sustainable exploitation of the resources. Similarly, in Cape Verde the project is on track, as the Government has completed an update on the status of a number of key fish stocks and begun the development of a long-term policy vision for the sector. Only in Senegal is the project off track, where implementation progress slowed considerably starting in August 2011, and fiduciary review of the management of the project in December 2011 showed serious weaknesses in overall financial management. As a result, the project activities to be implemented in Senegal are being restructured, with new management arrangements. Lastly, at the regional level, the Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission (CSRP) has begun the work of reviewing the monitoring and data collection systems for fisheries in each of the participating countries, to help them establish a national 'dashboard' of key fisheries information (such as fishing licenses and revenues), that would be aggregated into a regional dashboard that would serve as a knowledge portal for the region's fisheries.
