In response to the significant cost overruns and financing gap faced by the project, a US$45 million Additional Financing was approved by the World Bank on April 28, 2021. Key implementation progress per component is summarized below: 6/7/2021 Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Sint Maarten Emergency Recovery Project I (P167339) (i) Component 1 - Eleven shelters have been repaired to date, including four priority shelters completed in 2020. Three fire trucks are expected to be delivered by July 2021. Ten of the seventeen pickup trucks have been delivered. The Lidar survey (to develop a digital terrain model of the island) is progressing on schedule and is expected to be completed by June 30, 2021. (ii) Component 2 - The request for bidding for an estimated 8 km of trenching work for underground cabling of electrical power lines and water pipes has been prepared, and the safeguards screening is currently ongoing. Procurement is expected to start in July 2021. (iii) Component 3 - Work on the single-family home repair phase II is ongoing, and 62 units have been repaired to date. Repair work of the initial batch of three priority schools is currently underway; the pre-bid meeting for the second batch of three priority schools, along with the fire and ambulance building, was completed on May 21, 2021. The tender process for repairing three social housing buildings with 64 units under the Phase II repair program was launched in April 2021. (iv) Component 4 - the Framework Agreement consultant, arrived on the island in January 2021, is providing support to NRPB with technical assessments, designs, drafting procurement packages, and works supervision for various ongoing activities, such as single-family home repair phase II, school repair, social home repair phase II. The onboarding of this consulting firm has contributed significantly to expedite project investments. In addition, the NRPB has hired all key staff needed for project implementation.
