During the current cropping season (April- December 2011), 1600 tons of improved seed, 1000 tons of fertilizer and 15,290 liters of pesticides were distributed to smallholders. Data on the actual number of beneficiary farmers in 2011, and the number of hectares cultivated, have not yet been received. Initial data on cost recovery from the sale of seed, fertilizers, and pesticides will also not be available until after the harvest. This will allow the project to disburse the remaining USD 3 million and reach the original development objectives. A USD 20 million follow-up project (funded by the multi-donor Global Food Crisis Response Fund) is under preparation to consolidate and scale-up the results of the current GFRP project.
