By Mid-June 2013 the works under the Kigoma and Tabora Airports Public Disclosure Copy have been substantially completed and provisionally accepted. The works were completed within the contractual completion period. The progress of works has also picked up in Arusha-Minjingu and Korogwe – Mkumbara road works contracts with about 20 km of roads completed to Asphalt Concrete layer by Mid-May 2013. The progress of pavement works under the Zanzibar and Bukoba Airports is also progressing well , while the foundation works for the Bukoba Airport terminal has started. Further, 585 Km of roads has received emergency maintenance while 212 culverts were reconstructed under the component E of the project through 102 small contracts in 20 regions of the mainland of Tanzania. The progress of works under the Mkumbara-Same road contract has been substantially delayed and is on the critical path for the overall project implementation completion. The completed road design and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), under two separate contracts, for the Mafinga - Igawa road (137.9 km) were used for the preparation of the Southern Africa Trade and Transport Facilitation Project (SATTFP), which has been approved by the Board May 21, 2013. Four other consultants have been working on the design of about 770 km of roads, on 6 road links located in the different parts of Tanzania. Two of the consultants have finalized the designs (420 km) and the reports have been submitted to TANROADS while the other two consultants are expected to submit the final reports by end of June 2013. The railways upgrading and performance improvement study is completed and the final reports were submitted in March 2013. This study reports are being used for mobilizing funds from different Donors including the Bank for the re-vitalization of the Tanzania Railway Limited (TRL) central line railway system. Three short Term consultants had also submitted final reports on an ESIA screening, a land bridge concept study, and a market assessment and business plan development as an input to the preparation of the proposed Intermodal & Rail Development Project. A fourth consultancy service that is preparing the ESIA for the Intermodal & Rail Development Project is underway. The study for the removal of bottlenecks on local government roads has been completed and the designed bottlenecks for the first year of the bottleneck removal program have got a potential financing source from DFID. Although delayed, the selection of consultants is also at different stages for other remaining technical assistants and studies included under the component C and D. The commitment under signed contracts is estimated about US $ 249.0 million equivalent. The signed contracts account for more than 97 % of the total credit allocations and have committed 76 % of the total credits amount. The total amount of funds disbursed as of June 15, 2013, is US$ 125.44 million which is about 38 % of the two credit amounts of US$ 329 million, while about 59 % of the project implementation period has elapsed.
