After 3 years of implementation, the Project has already provided noticeable improvements in quality of life in the targeted areas as well as in the quality of water service provision in a number of cities. Technical assistance activities are underway and improvements are noticeable in the performance of targeted municipal governments and in the water company procedures. Most of the works contracts have been awarded and some have reached an advanced stage of implementation. After two years of the public-private partnership (PPP) in urban water services in Cameroon, the water component has already shown some positive results in Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Report No: ISR4449 improving direct access, while restoring the quality, continuity and sustainability of services. An Additional Financing (US$28.7 million) credit was approved on September 28, 2010, and became effective on March 28, 2011. The additional funds will be used to: (i) scale-up the project to enhance its development impact (US$14.6 million) by increasing access to basic infrastructure and services of urban populations, and expanding urgent rehabilitation works to secure acceptable quantity and quality of drinking water in Yaounde, which is experiencing serious water shortages in dry seasons; (ii) meet a financing gap resulting from Public Disclosure Copy the delayed availability of parallel funding sources (US$12.0 million); and (iii) finance cost overruns to complete some original project activities (US$2.1 million).
