Project Development Objective is to (a) demonstrate improved sustainable land and water management practices aimed at
reducinglanddegradation and enhancing maintenance of biodiversity in selected micro-watersheds, and (b) strengthen spatial planning
foridentification of linked watershed investments in the Northern Savannah region of Ghana.

Implementation Status and Key Decisions

Satisfactory Overall Performance. Project overall performance is satisfactory. Achievement of Project targets is consistent with the Project stage
and disbursements to date. Spatial development activities, implemented by the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), have
progressed significantly after a long initial delay. Based on the progress report and mission findings in the field, implementation of the core SLWM
activities through sub-projects is on track (these are implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ministry of
Food and Agriculture, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). High demand for project support to SLWM activities was noted among the
new and old beneficiary communities, exceeding available funding about two-fold. Implementation of biodiversity activities by the Wildlife Division of
the Forestry Commission continues experiencing delays. Sustainable forest management activities implemented by the Forest Services Division of
the Forestry Commission have been initiated and are progressing according to the work plan. Activities related to monitoring of SLWM implemented
by the EPA are progressing with minor delays. Implementation of Payment of Environmental Services was deferred until the concept is sufficiently
mature and ready for implementation.
