These CLDs are supporting the management planning exercise of 142 terroirs as validated by the four Councils for Agriculture and Rural Management (CART, Conseil Agricole Rural de Territoire) at the territory level with the view to reducing pressure on native forests by promoting alternatives to slash-and burn in forested landscapes. Agroforestry plantations have also progressed very well under the other components (2a and 3) with a total of 13,468 hectares duly planted as of May 15, 2018, per the following breakdown: •Component 1: 3,715 hectares (74% of the objective); •Component 2: 3,785 hectares (38% of the objective); •Component 3: 5,968 hectares (119% of the objective). In addition, 18,643 hectares of exclosures to facilitate natural regeneration by protecting land areas from bush fires are up and running, with respectively 13,271 hectares of exclosures under component 1 and 5,372 hectares under component 3. Component 2b is finally taking off thanks to the contract signed with the firm BINO NA BISSO (BNB). Thanks to a reorganization process supported by the project, the company has restored an efficient production line. Priority is now to focus on marketing. In terms of emission reductions (ERs), the dissemination of the 8023 produced by BNB (and thanks to the project support) has already avoided the emissions of 54,000 metric tons of CO2 (tCO2eq.). As to removals from afforestation / reforestation activities, these are estimated to 476,000 tCO2eq. Avoided emissions from deforestation and forest degradation have not been monitored yet, but if we assume that project activities by redirecting workforce into degraded savannahs from forested landscapes, 4.3 million tCO2eq. might have been reduced since the commissioning of the project, leading to overall emission reductions around 4.8 million tCO2eq. on May 15, 2018. The project website (www.pifrdc.org) is up and running since November 15, 2017. Its objective is to promote: (i) the dissemination of lessons learnt; and (ii) the use of the Feedback and Grievance Redress Mechanism. Grievances can be submitted online or by contacting: (i) plaintes.recours.pif@gmail.com; (ii) the Forest Investment Programme Coordination Unit (UC-PIF); (iii) the Local Implementing agencies (Agences Locales d'exécution); and (iv) the CLDs or the CARTs. "Energy efficiency measures in thermal applications of non-renewable biomass"; and (ii) removals generated under afforestation / reforestation schemes in the Kinshasa basin supply (Components 1, 2a and 3) and measured using proxys (carbon sequestration for each type of sylvicultural model), have been estimated. Emission reductions as derived from the production of cookstoves and calculated on May 15, 2018: 54,301 tCO2eq. Removals as derived from the tree plantations, and calculated on May 15, 2018: 475,755 tCO2eq. Sub-total calculated on May 15, 2018: 530,056 tCO2eq. It is of critical importance to understand that both activities, as they are today, will have future impacts, and will have reduced emissions by 2.04 million tCO2eq. in 2030. Finally, if we consider that the project will reduce over a five year period (2016 - 2020) by 3% emissions from deforestation and forest degradation against the baseline, as defined in the Emission Reductions Programme Document for the Mai Ndombe Province duly approved by the Carbon Fund participants of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) in November 2016, project activities might have already reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation by 4,322,051 tCO2eq. Total with avoided deforestation and/or reduced forest degradation: 4,852,108 tCO2eq.
