The Grant Agreement was signed on December 19, 2012 and became effective on December 26, 2012. The project is under-implementation and moving as scheduled. The project implementation was moving smoothly until the last 4 months when some of the equipment to be used for Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Report No: ISR13219 the upgrading of the Desalination unit were not cleared yet to enter to Gaza by the Israeli authorities. The project contributed in improving the water supply and sanitation services by developing water and sewage systems facilities, specifically: 1. The project helped PWA and the utility maintaining and securing chlorine solution (sodium hydrochloride 10% active chlorine) which helped sustaining the disinfection Public Disclosure Copy efficiency of the water supply in Gaza Strip at acceptable standard level of 99.4%. 2. Decreasing the percentage of the none revenue water (NRW) from 39% to 36.4% since effectiveness by doing repairs for deteriorated pipes, managing comprehensive replacement and repair of (6780) customers water meters and water wells meters. 3. 24000 People in the project area were benefited from improved wastewater facilities. 15 water pumping turbines were completely replaced with more efficient pumps which lead to significant reduction in the power consumption related to the water produced from water wells .
