Primary objectives include: (i) raising income, (ii) increasing access to potable water and basic sanitation; and (iii) improving health outcomes of targeted populations. A secondary objective is to improve the management capacity and administrative efficiency of the states public sector. Health and water civil works continued in Tabatinga, Benjamin and Atalaia, while income-generating sub-projects are being implemented or prepared in all nine municipalities, especially fisheries management and Brazil nuts commercialization, also involving indigenous communities. Communities and municipal governments support the project and expect more engagement in the future. The slow down of decision-making processes has affected the creation of the Health and Sanitation consortia, as well as the mobilization of counterpart funds. Currency fluctuations also affected the amount of resources available for the project, and together with the region's extreme logistical challenges, have imposed more selectivity in all three components.
