The current project total cost is US$55 million and closing date is December 31, 2021. This ISR reflects the outcomes of the Implementation Support Mission and Pre-Appraisal of the Additional Financing carried out from October 11 to 14, 2021. The Project has maintained a steady pace of implementation . The Project has benefited 151,000 farmers (out of a target of 180,000) in 175 model villages, and all project funds have been disbursed. Ratings across the Project remain in the satisfactory range. In addition, the Project has reported progress towards achieving its development objective targets by December 2021: slightly over 130,000 farmers, including 74,000 women, 11/17/2021 Page 1 of 7 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Second Agriculture Sector Wide Approach Support Project (P164445) are adopting technologies promoted by the Project, exceeding the target of 100,000 farmers. Beneficiaries are reporting yield increases for maize (28%) and groundnut (13%). In addition, 94 (out of 100) market centers are now better connected by approximately 1,000 km of improved roads. The preparation of an Additional Financing (AF) in the amount of US$14.8 million for the Project is in its final stage. The AF will be financed using the total residual balance of the MDTF available for a new grant. The additional resources will be allocated only to Components 1, 3, and 4; Component 2 is being completed and will not receive supplemental funds. Through the AF the Project will add 50,000 new beneficiaries (including 27,500 women) from the twelve districts covered by the Parent Project, namely Lilongwe, Mchinji, Kasungu, Ntchisi, Dedza, Mzimba, Phalombe, Ntcheu, Chitipa, Zomba, Mulanje and Thyolo. These beneficiaries are mainly smallholder farmers engaged in subsistence farming in the targeted 175 model villages. .
