It was subsequently approved by the World Bank’s Africa Regional Vice President on July 17, 2019 and the grant agreement was signed on September 19, 2019. The PCU team is (i) internally reviewing the first draft of the PIM; (ii) updating the 10/18/2019 Page 1 of 9 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Benin Global Partnership for Education Project Phase 3 (P167432) annual work program and procurement plan; and (iii) preparing a workshop to launch activities of the project upon effectiveness. It is expected that the effectiveness conditions will be met by November, 15, 2019, about 2.5 months before the deadline of January 17, 2020. As the implementation of the project has not yet really started, this initial ISR provides an overview of the project. The project has three components as follows: Component 1: Improving the quality of basic education- This component aims to: (i) improve the curricula to enhance the quality of basic education; (ii) improve teachers’ knowledge on curricula and teaching practices in primary and lower secondary schools; and, (iii) strengthen the initial teachers’ education in teachers’ education institutions (ENI and ENS). Component 2: Improving equity in basic education- This component aims to promote equitable access to schooling through support to (i) CI and CP students in public primary schools in the deprived districts of Alibori and Borgou regions; (ii) children with disabilities in the regions of Zou and Collines and children in specialized education and training centers. Component 3: Strengthening the delivery of education services- This component will support: (i) capacity-building of Ministries of Education (MEMP and MESTFP), including M&E; and (ii) project management.
