The major interventions include technology generation through research, research-extension linkages, enhanced technology transfer, improved service delivery and better access to markets and inputs. Farmer group-based technology dissemination and adoption is being used as a tool to enhance adoption of improved practices. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the project activities are being implemented with necessary safety measures, so as to ensure achievement of the project objectives to the desired levels. The project has made notable progress over the last six months: o Productivity indicators show incremental progress since July 2020 (date of ISM-4) and are on track towards project-end targets. The reported yield increases are: Rice 5.2 tons/ha, tomato 34 tons/ha, milk yield per cow 3.7 Lt/day, beef cattle live weight increased to 213 kg, 3/25/2021 Page 1 of 8 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Bangladesh NATP-2: National Agricultural Technology Program - Phase II Project (P149553) culture fish yield 4.9 tons/ha of pond, and capture fishery (Beel) 1.08 tons/ha. Yield increases however between 15 and 100% of the End Of Project (EOP) targets o Improvement in marketed volumes by PIU-Department of Livestock Services (DLS) and Department of Fisheries (DoF) are expected to continue in the coming months. PIU-Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has facilitated the marketing of 17,350 mt of agricultural products (116 % achievement against EOP). PIU-DLS and DoF marketed 1,442 mt of livestock products (primarily milk) and 1,887 mt of fish (42% for livestock and 63% for fish products targets). The DoF has developed an innovative online fish marketing platform called “pofishmarket” and has addressed the key objective of significantly improving smallholder farmers’ access to markets. o Agriculture Innovation Fund 2 and 3 (AIF-2 and AIF-3) sub-projects contribute to farm mechanization, enhanced agricultural productivity, and marketing of agricultural products. In total 2,517 (72% of targets) sub-projects have been awarded by three agencies. Compared to ISM-4, the additional achievements in AIF-2 & 3 are 27% and 83% respectively. However, the livestock sector (DLS) needs to focus on improving the performance under AIF-2 and AIF-3. In the coming months, the Bank team will provide support to conduct cross-sectoral analysis and validate data collection methods and data quality, and to understand the causes of productivity increase across sectors.
