Two cohorts of children of 137,951 boys and girls completed the School Preparation Program with increased readiness prior to start primary school. The preparation for the third cohort is well underway. The enrolment will start in September, 2017. The three cohorts combined would double the original target of 80,000 children. The feedback about the program from parents, stakeholders and communities are overwhelmingly positive. For establishing Community Based Kindergartens (CBKs), 20 additional CBKs have been selected in addition to the 100 selected in 2016. 7 out of them are fully operational now. The current enrolment is about 2,190 children from poor households in the targeted low income and underserved districts. The remaining number of the CBKs will become operational in the next six to nine months. Under the pilot of Inclusive Education Program, the institutional capacity of the pilot rayon has been significantly strengthened for early diagnosis of children with learning disabilities and integrating them into regular schooling through expanded training of teachers in customized pedagogy, enhanced diagnosis capacity and instruments and the training of social workers in providing social support and counseling. The project also stepped up its communications and dissemination of results to raise public awareness which in turn boosted public demand for the School Preparation Program and CbKs services. The two tracking exercises of child development and teacher practice have been advanced with the follow-up round to generate further data for analysis and to inform the next steps.
