The response to Covid 19 has started with the first payment to urban populations experiencing poverty through the lockdown. It 6/26/2020 Page 1 of 9 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Social Safety Net Project (P124015) will reach three target groups: poor households directly affected by Covid 19, market sellers affected by the closure of markets and other vulnerable urban households. The payments planned for the first quarter of the year were all made except the payment in Banh, in Titao and in certain communes of the Sahel for security reasons. In particular, several cash transfer activities were carried out in the project intervention areas for the benefit of: i) 7,405 beneficiaries from 3 northern municipalities (Arbollé, Yako and Titao); ii) 29,651 Eastern beneficiaries in two payments respectively in December 2019 and March 13, 2020; iii) 20,025 beneficiaries in the Center-East and iv) 2,681 beneficiaries in the municipalities of Dori and Falangountou in the Sahel. In view of the security situation which has led to massive displacements of the populations (765,517 internally displaced persons counted on February 12, 2020), a detailed operational plan in favor of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities has been developed. The objective of this plan is to assist host populations exposed to food and nutritional insecurity as well as the internally displaced persons residing there. It fulfills a condition to activate the CERC component of the project, reserved for emergencies.
