The SADCP Project Development Objective (PDO) is to increase smallholder agriculture productivity, production, and marketing for selected crops in project areas. Overall, the project implementation continues to be reasonable, despite the challenges imposed by the new corona virus pandemic (COVID-19), and considerable progress has been made towards achieving the Project Development Objectives (PDO) as follows: (i) average crop yields- There has been considerable increase in the average yield of beans (60 percent); cabbage (160 percent), cassava (60 percent), Irish Potatoes (77 percent), maize (89 percent). While cassava, maize, potato, and beans, have increased at least 60% compared to the baseline, they are slightly below the targets set for this period The low yields compared to the planned target for this period are in part due to poor assistance to farmers and access to inputs due to the social distance measures imposed by the new corona virus pandemic but also due to drought reported in some project areas; (ii) production volume- The volume of maize and cassava are at 122,412 and 752,822 tons slightly above the end target but beans are 15,163 tins (7 percent below target); (iii) proportion of production sold – It is estimated at 51 percent considerable increase from the baseline of 7/26/2021 Page 1 of 9 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Smallholder Agriculture Development and Commercialization Project (P154447) 17 percent, but slightly below the end target of 57 percent; and (iv) the number of beneficiaries is estimated at 165,328 against 175,000 beneficiaries at the end of the project or about 94 percent of the end target of which about 48 percent of beneficiaries are female. The project has disbursed US$54.47 million to date, which represents 78 percent of the Loan amount of $70 million and the undisbursed balance is fully committed.
