YANGTZE RIVERAQUATIC ENVIRONMENT SIMULATION MODELS Two models were applied to simulate aquatic environment of Yangtze River, namely 1-D hydraulic model and 2-D hydrodynamic/water quality model. The coverage of 1-D hydraulic model started from Datong Station at the upstream of Yangtze River to Haimen Qinglong Harbour (north branch of Yangtze River)at the downstream of Yangtze River and Liuhekou (south branch of Yangtze River) in Taicang County, the total length of which is 433 km. The 1-D Saint-venant Equations were : Q A Continuity equation + x t = qL Q Z 2 Q Q Dynamic equation + ( Q2 ) + t x A gA x + gA nR1.333 = qLvx The 1-D model was built in 1985, which was used by Nanjing Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters to prevent flood and protect environment at the estuary of Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province for several times. The 2-D inconstant flow equation was applied in 2-D instable hydrodynamics model: Continuity equation ht + (uh)x + (vh)y = 0 ut + (uu)x + (uv)y + gh(h + zy)x - fv + gn2 u2 + v2v = u h 43 Dynamic equation vt + (vu)x + (vv)y + gh(h + zy)x - fu + gn2 u2 + v2v = v h 43 For simulation of water quality, the following equation was applied: C +u C +vC = (Ex C) + (Ey C) - KC + S t x y x x y y During the Study on Water Quality of Regional Water Intakes on Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province, the accuracy of 2-D model and feasibility of generalization were identified and justified through hydraulic data at absolute season and remote sensing monitoring data. The 2-D model was also widely used during environmental protection planning and EIA for Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province for several times. RIVER NETWORK WATER QUANTITYAND QUALITY MODEL FOR TAI LAKE BASIN A set of models were applied to simulate river network water quantity and quality in Tai Lake Basin, which consist of Tai Lake Basin River Network Water Quantity Model, Pollution Load Model, 2-D Tai Lake Water Quality Model and Tai Lake Basin River Network Water Quality Model. The modeling system is shown as follows: Generalization of Tai Lake Basin River Network Pollution Load Model Precipitation-runoff Model River Network River Network Water Quantity Water Quality Output Model Model 2-D Lake Water Quantity and Quality Model The River Network Water Quantity and Quality Model for Tai Lake Basin was developed by Hohai University collaborating with Delft Labor in Netherlands, as one component of Study on Three-year Water Quality of Tai Lake Basin financed by World Bank during 1993 and 1995. The model are the only mathematic tool to simulate water quantity and quality of the whole Tai Lake Basin, which has been widely used in water quantity and quality planning and management of water resources in Tai Lake Basin. The water quantities used in Zhenjiang Jianbi and Danyang Shicheng components are the outputs from this model.
