However, in light of improved engagement with the private sector, good quality and inclusive planning processes, and productive policy dialogue, the project is expected to improve the pace of key investments and activities and achieve its development objectives. The Cambodia Environmental Management Information System (CEMIS) and zoning activities that contribute to strengthening protected areas management have progressed well, but in the meantime, there is still concern about the potential environmental, social, and economic impacts of legal declassification of land in some protected 12/15/2021 Page 1 of 7 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Cambodia Sustainable Landscape and Ecotourism Project (P165344) areas to private ownership (limited so far) and lack of a comprehensive law enforcement strategy. Good progress has also been made on policy development for the enabling environment for ecotourism. Five non-timber forest product value chains to be improved by the project have been defined to date, and MoE has started to engage with private sector to enable the selling of products in Cambodian supermarkets. Next steps include ramping up the direct engagement with private entities (both for ecotourism and conservation-friendly economic activities) and improving the timeliness of procurement processes to avoid further implementation delays.
