RCIP-5 project is closing on Aug 31, 2022, with all pending project activities expected to be completed within the planned project period. The project is also on track to meet or exceed the fifteen (15) targets within the remaining 5 months of implementation. The government was requested to closely monitor the existing activities to ensure completion before the closing date. Some of the major achievements credited to the project include: 1. Implementation of the National Backbone Infrastructure (NBI) in the West Nile and Northeastern parts of the country, covering a total of 842 Km of Optical Fiber Cable (OFC). 2. Implementation of the last mile Project to extend an additional 732Km of optical fiber cable (OFC) to 725 MDAs/DLGs and 300 Wi-Fi sites. 3. Establishment of the National Data Center (NDC) and Disaster Recovery Site that provide hosting services for the majority of government applications and systems. To-date, 189 critical government applications are being hosted for 101 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). 4. Development of a Data Sharing and Integration Platform for government services, with 47 public and private entities already integrated into the platform with an ability to exchange data. < li>Establishment of the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) Forensic Coordination Center to enhance coordination on Cybersecurity and to ensure protection of national Critical Information Infrastructure. 5. Development and roll-out of the Unified Messaging and Collaboration System (UMCS), which provides secure email and communication services to more than 20,7 21 users in 99 MDAs and District Local Governments (DLGs) 6. The SMS Gateway has been rolled out to 32 MDAs utilizing a total of 22 e-services 7. Over 4.7 million direct beneficiaries were supported by project-related ICT interventions as of March 14, 2022. 8. Since 2016, RCIP-5 helped lower the Price of Wholesale international capacity (per Mbit/s per Month, in US$) from $97 to $2.6 which translated into lower internet prices and extended geographic reach of broadband connectivity. 9. The National Cybersecurity strategy, Strategy for Institutionalization of the ICT function in Government of Uganda and the ICT Skills gap assessment and development of an Action Plan, National Broadband Survey and development of the Blueprint, baseline survey on waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) were all completed.
