Government has revised the Alternative Education Pathways (AEP) syllabus, developed teacher training materials, committed to providing fee-free places for all girls, and set out a costed implementation plan to more than double AEP centers in the neediest areas over the lifetime of the project. On November 29, 2021, Government issued a statement and circular allowing all dropouts, including young mothers, to return to formal schools to complete their education; and the developed ‘dropout early warning system (DEWS)’ will enable accurate tracking of school dropouts and their return to school. A taskforce comprising key players in the promotion of girls’ education has been set up to guide the development of the Safe Schools Program (SSP) package for Tanzania. The indicators of improved completion of secondary education show enrollment of girls and boys in lower secondary increasing by 21 percent and enrollment in advanced secondary increasing by 22 percent. This positive trend will continue to be monitored as the project moves into the second year of implementation and begins the implementation of project activities.
