This ISR is informed by an in-person Bank mission held between September 25 and 27, 2022, and frequent follow-up meetings and discussions since the previous ISR. During the mission, the Client made an informal request for an extension, and it was agreed that this would be discussed during the upcoming mid-term review (MTR) mission, tentatively scheduled for the week of January 22, 2024. 12/21/2023 Page 1 of 8 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Guyana Education Sector Program Project (P174244) The mission appreciated that the PIU is fully operational now and noted progress in project implementation, especially for Component 1, where substantial progress has been made in the rollout of the Nursery curriculum for Nursery 1, including observations of trained teachers. However, overall implementation pace remains slow, in particular for Component 2. Specifically, the EdTech pilots are underway, and it is expected that a total of four (4) smart classrooms will be completed by December 2023. Finally, regarding the rollout of the new education management information system (EMIS) for Component 3, the pilot phase for primary and secondary schools with connectivity was officially launched in October 2023.
