Submarine Cable System: This component has been completed. The Tui Samoa cable was ready for service (RFS) in February 2018 and has been operating since that time. Additional spurs to Wallis & Futuna and Savusavu (Fiji) are also now in service. Telecom/internet service providers are reporting significant increase in the volume of data usage. They are now offering new data plans and prices typically with increased data. 2. Regulatory technical assistance. The Office of The Regulator (OOTR) continues with implementation of its business plan notwithstanding recent operational challengesIt is currently operating from temporary premises. OOTR will need to maintain proactive in monitoring sector developments and continuing to enhance the capabilities of its staff. 3. Project Restructuring. The Project was restructured in August 2019: closing date extended to June 30, 2022. In addition, savings were allocated to a new Digital ID --Component 4. This is supporting the Government in three interrelated key areas: (a) digital legislation, (b) digital Government platform options assessment and high-level design, and (c) digital ID program design and implementation. The Government has procured consultants for legal advisory assistance under 4 (a) and the team mobilized remotely to start the work in April 2020. An Inception Report was delivered on May 15. Technical/design consultants for digital ID and civil registration systems have been recruited and have commenced work remotely. Consultancies for Digital Government Platform under 4(b) and for communications advisory assistance under 4(c) are in progress. 4. APIP grant extension. Government has requested the extension of the cofinancing APIP grant to June 30, 2022.
