In Cameroon, public works to rehabilitate 127 km of roads have started. However, in Niger, the rehabilitation of 104 km of rural roads is delayed pending the finalization of the 6/29/2023 Page 1 of 8 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Lake Chad Region Recovery and Development Project (P161706) Reinstallation Action Plan (RAP). In Chad, the rehabilitation of the Berim and Mamdi polders and of 100 km of rural roads have been delayed as well. The second International Forum on the Development of the Lake Chad Region took place successfully in Niamey on 23-25 May 2023. Co- hosted by the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the Government of Niger, the event drew more than 500 participants (including 357 in- person attendees) around the theme « Regional integration and natural resources management: solutions for durable peace and economic development in the Lake Chad region”. The Forum concluded with a declaration calling for a coordinated action of governments and donors to support a ‘big push’ strategy to improve community resilience, local governance, interconnectivity and trade and an integrated management of water and natural resources. The third edition of the Forum will be hosted in N’Djamena in 2024. Lake Chad Basin Commission. The LCBC made significant progress in the development of the Knowledge and Monitoring Platform (KMP), which is now online (https://lis.cblt.org/lis/km). A representative survey of 10,000 respondents across Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria on topics spanning climate change and NRM, local governance and service provision, socio-economic development, social cohesion and security, was completed and presented in Niamey. The KMP now includes a research library and a registry of ongoing humanitarian and development projects. This is a set of 29 indicators spanning climate change and natural resources management, local governance and access to public services, socio-economic development, social cohesion and security. The data was collected via a survey of 10,000 respondents carried out simultaneously across 24 departments of Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Nigeria in February-March 2023. The data are representative at the district/commune Comments: level. Key findings were presented during the second Forum for the Development of the Lake Chad Region in Niamey 23-25 May 2023. The data, analytical report and a policy brief will be published on the LCBC online portal (KMP) in July-August 2023. Besides, a research library and a project registry were added to the KMP. A project priority in the coming months will be to populate the library and registry ahead of a full launch of the KMP during the next Forum in N'Djamena in 2024.
